Tacita Dean: Blind Folly is the first major museum survey in the United States of work by British European visual artist Tacita Dean (b. 1965). The exhibition, organized in close collaboration with Dean, spotlights her career-defining approach to creating art through unmediated and chance-based drawing processes across a variety of mediums, from film to printmaking.
The layout and placement of artworks for this exhibition was artist lead and involved heavy coordination with the studio. Construction required specific details around the film rooms and platforms around the larger chalk works. Exhibition also involved connecting and designing gallery label cards and holders.

The exhibition included two film rooms with traditional reel-to-reel film projectors. For Claes Oldenburg draws Blueberry Pie (left) the film was projected from a hidden projector room. Friar’s Doodle (right) is rear projected and a fabric screen hangs from the ceiling with a single chair placed in front of the screen for viewing.
To complement the contemplative nature of Dean’s work, each gallery was accompanied by a label card in a bespoke holder with tombstone information and didactic information on the works in the gallery.
Tacita Dean: Blind Folly is curated by Michelle White, Senior Curator, The Menil Collection, Houston, and presented at the Columbus Museum of Art in collaboration with Daniel Marcus, Curator of Collections and Exhibitions, and Rae Root, Roy Lichtenstein Curatorial Fellow.
